Video Mashup proposal
ProposalMy proposal for the video mashup is to investigate and shine a light on the hypocrisy and flip-flopping of political candidates. I want to expose this because it bothers me when the political candidates don’t stick with what they believe in just because it happens not to be popular, especially when they change it depending on the state that they are in. This was most recently seen in the last presidential elections when Mitt Romney switched his opinions on abortion depending on which state he happened to be giving a speech in. I have never had a problem with candidates having opinions that differ from mine, though I may not like that they feel strongly against something for which I feel strongly. I cannot, however, respect a candidate who cannot stick with what they believe in.
The way I want to go about this video is to take a few snippets of various candidates contradicting themselves and set it to the song “Hypocrite” by The Heptones. They are an older band, so I hope to be able to find this song available for free use. I also want to try and use some political cartoons either in actual cartoon version or in comic version. I think that, if I focused on matching some of the images and videos to the music, it could create a great storyline that can be followed from beginning to end.
Another idea that I could do with this video is to start with earlier examples of hypocritical politicians and then move forward to more recent examples of politicians. I’m also sure that I could find a few places directly from the politicians that list their standpoints and then I could find video or audio examples of the politician contradicting those particular ideas.
One thing that I could also focus on is how and if a politician contradicts the ideals of their particular party. I could use my dad as a source in trying to get information on the Republican party and get a little bit of information on the politicians in my town, since he is part of the Republican Club where we live. He has worked on the campaigns of Chris Christie, Diane Allen (who he personally knows, so I might be able to use her as a source as well), as well as other New Jersey politicians.
I might also try to include some clips from the movie “Liar, Liar” starring Jim Carrey, because the idea also seems to fit my idea, or at least some of the quotes could fit in very well with the whole theme of lying and hypocritical politicians.
I feel that I could successfully complete this project if I were to follow the steps that I have outlined above. I have programs that will assist me in completing this project, and I also can make my own videos and take pictures and include them in the video. I hope that by the end of my video, the viewer can understand my point and, if they do not agree, at least go away with a sense that I appropriately argued my idea.
